Email is for records, not for crisis communication. Pick up the phone. Have your specs from Step 2 in front of you.

You need to ask three specific questions:

  1. "Can you do this, with these exact specs, to meet this deadline? Yes or no." (Listen for hesitation.)
  2. "What is the all-in cost, including all rush fees, setup, and shipping to [LOCATION from Step 1]?" (Get the number.)
  3. "What is the single point of failure? Where does this process most commonly break down for you on a rush job?" (Their answer tells you their experience level.)

Based on our internal data from 200+ rush jobs, the vendor who answers question #3 with something specific like "artwork approval" or "material availability on short notice" is usually the more reliable partner. The one who says "nothing, we've got it" is often the one that surprises you later.

Step 4: Authorize the Premium & Get the Proof
