Office Supply Requests: A Buyer's Checklist for Glue, Envelopes, and Manuals

If you're the person who gets asked to 'just order some glue' or 'find the right size envelope,' this checklist is for you. I'm the office administrator for a 50-person company. I process about 60 to 80 orders a year, manage roughly $40k in annual spend across 12 vendors, and report to both operations and finance. Step 3: Pull the manual before buying parts or tools

If you only have two minutes, do step 2 and step 5. Those are the two steps with the highest hidden cost. Step 2 tells you whether the product can do the job. Step 5 tells you whether you can undo the job. The other steps are about logistics, but those two are about avoiding a follow-up complaint from a colleague holding two broken pieces.

Bottom line: The cheapest order is not the cheapest when it doesn't fit, fails, or needs a reprint. Take the extra minute to check specs, removal, and the source. That minute is where the real savings live.
